The Nitecore TUP2 has one of the most interesting designs I’ve seen on a compact EDC flashlight. But, It features two top-mounted buttons one for power and one for mode selection — and above them, a small OLED display which at first seems overkill. But the screen gives you live updates on your brightness level, remaining runtime, and even the lockout status. Most pocket lights don’t give you that level of information, and it makes the TUP2 feel advanced like a smart flashlight for people who actually use their gear. The deep-carry pocket clip is sturdy, so you can clip it to a hat brim or pocket edge for hands-free light, which is perfect when you’re setting up camp or cooking outside. The belt clip and keychain clip can also be used to store it on your backpack for easy access.

How Big is the Nitecore TUP2?

The Nitecore TUP2 is about 2.8 inches long and weighs about two ounces, about the size of car key fobs as you can see compared to my Ford Key but far brighter. For everyday carry, that size-to-performance ratio is excellent. You barely notice it’s there until you need it. The cubed design also keeps it from rolling away on flat surfaces a nice touch for people using it on workbenches or camp tables. It’s truly a pocket light with tactical-level brightness, making it one of the most versatile EDC flashlights out there right now. How Easy Is the Nitecore TUP2 to Use?

The power button turns the light on and off, while the mode button cycles through brightness levels. Hold the mode button for instant access to Turbo mode, no matter which setting you’re currently on. The OLED screen updates in real time as you switch modes, so you always know how long the battery will last. That’s a small detail, but when you’re out camping or traveling, it’s really helpful. The TUP2 also includes two lockout modes, which prevent accidental activation when it’s in your pocket or pack a must-have for any Everyday Carry flashlight as we’ll discuss later. With the light on you press and hold the power button until the semi-lock icon appears. This allows you to use turbo mode by pressing and holding the mode button. But if you continue holding the power button the semi-lock will transition for full lock and the buttons are disabled. To unlock from either mode hold both buttons until the unlock icon appears and the progress bar is full.

The instruction manual shares this well: The product features 3 color temperatures: warm light, neutral white light and cool white light. When the light is on, press and hold both buttons and the screen will successively show the color temperatures. Release to confirm and memorize the selected color temperature. With the light on a short press on the mode button will cycle through Ultralow - low- mid- and high brightness. The design is appropriate for 3 color temperatures, 4 brightness levels and a turbo mode.

How Bright Is the Nitecore TUP2?

Let’s get to the fun part, brightness. The Nitecore TUP2 uses a 4 quad-core MCT UHE LEDs and can reach up to 1200 lumens on Turbo mode. That’s impressive for something this small. When you hold the mode button, it instantly blasts the turbo beam easily lighting up a trail, campsite, or even the next county. But the 1200-lumen Turbo on this light is only for short bursts and is only active while you press the mode button. After that, you’re left with a still-impressive 300-lumen High mode, which is plenty for walking at night or working by the campfire and still 10 times stronger than your phone light. If you just need a little glow in your tent or RV, the 1-lumen Ultra-Low mode will run up to 190 hours, almost 8 days of continuous use. So whether you’re hiking, camping, or just walking the dog at night, the Nitecore TUP2 EDC flashlight has a brightness mode that fits the situation.

How Long can the Nitecore TUP2 Last on a Full Charge?

Powering the Nitecore TUP2 EDC light is an internal 1300 mAh lithium-ion battery. It’s rechargeable via USB-C, so you can top it off using the same cable you use for your phone or power bank. On Low and Medium modes, you’ll get 30hours and 7 hours respectively, perfect for daily tasks, short hikes, or hanging at your campsite after dark. The screen even displays live charging progress with a % charge indicator, which takes the guesswork out of it. It typically takes about two hours for a full charge from empty. What Could Be Improved on the Nitecore TUP2?

No gear is perfect, and the Nitecore TUP2 Everyday Carry Light has a few small trade-offs worth mentioning. The first thing to know is that Turbo mode only works while the mode button is held down. That’s not a dealbreaker, but it does mean you’ll need to keep your thumb on the button if you want that full 1200-lumen blast. The second thing is heat. The TUP2 can get pretty warm if it’s left running on High for a while. I know, I found that out the hard way. One night, I was working on my laptop and noticed my legs getting warm. I figured it was just the computer heating up, but after a minute, it felt like I was getting burned. I stood up and realized the Nitecore TUP2 had turned on in my pocket. That was a good reminder to always use one of the two lockout modes when you’re not using the light — especially if you’re keeping it in your pocket or pack. But, if you ever need a hand warmer this light can satisfy :). Lastly, the IP54 water-resistance rating could use an upgrade. It’ll handle a little rain or splashing, but this isn’t a flashlight you want to drop in a puddle or use with soaking wet hands for long periods. It’s fine for everyday use around camp, but if you plan to use it in heavy rain or harsher conditions, one of Nitecore’s tactical lights would be a better fit.

So How Does the Nitecore TUP2 Everyday Carry Light perform in real life?

Through my experience the last 30 days around camp, it’s impressive. I used it to light up the picnic table during dinner prep, find gear in the truck bed, and even check the campsite perimeter after dark. But around the house I’m out before dawn and after dark tending to livestock. The beam is balanced, with the high beam reaching 64 meters and Turbo extending out to 125 meters or a football field from goal post to goal post. The 15-lumen Low mode is perfect for late-night setups or tent use extending 15 meters. You probably won’t need that much light often, but if you have it you’ll use it like I often do.

What do I like about the Nitecore TUP2?

Here’s what stands out after using the Nitecore TUP2 EDC flashlight. The OLED display is a game changer, I wish more lights had this. My first impression was why and after using it for a month it helps you use your battery wisely. The build quality feels premium, durable, and truly pocket-friendly. The USB-C charging is fast and convenient. The lockout mode works great for everyday carry or travel. And of course, the beam pattern is clean, bright, and practical.
